Global Cooperation in the World of Glass
ICG is a not-for-profit GLASS SOCIETY comprising 33 national organizations in glass science and technology.
ICG promotes cooperation between glass experts through its Technical Committees (round robin testing, publication of scientific & technical papers) and by assisting in the organisation of conferences.
Its logo features the Egyptian hieroglyph for "brilliance".
ICG encourages:
More national institutions to join as members and more individuals to serve on Technical Committees

Proposed International Year of Glass 2022
Aware of its role in the wealth and health of society, senior figures from industry, academia and in culture have realised that ‘glass’ deserves international celebration and 2022 is the anniversary of several significant events. From these embryonic thoughts, the Corning Museum of Glass, the International Commission on Glass, the Community of Glass Associations and ICOM, the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Glass have joined together and an initial stream of interest has become a flood - 1127 letters of endorsement from 74 countries. Following discussions with UNESCO, formal approval of the UN is being sought at the next General Assembly (delayed to December by the Covid Virus). To follow a news feed or register your interest please go to the IYOG2022 web site: www.iyog2022.org
The paperwork is now submitted for this application and an excellent video primarily aimed at UN ambassadors is available on the UTube website. A decision is expected in March, delayed because of the Covid epidemic. More information has been circulated to all who have submitted letters of endorsement or have expressed interest in the project. Should you have not heard anything please check your spam folder for emails from Mailchimp.
ICG Congresses and Conferences
Every three years ICG organises an International Congress on Glass. The XXVth CONGRESS ran from June 9-14th (2019) in Boston, USA. In the intervening years it sponsors an annual conference. The 2021 Conference is being organised in South Korea and the next Congress in Germany (2022). A planned conference in Krakow, Poland (2020) has unfortunately been cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
ICG also offers schools for young researchers from industry and academia. They take place in Europe and Asia annually; a school once every four years in India is also being planned and will next run in January 2021 as a virtual event. Further information is available on their web site. The event targets newer research workers and is supported by more than 20 well known lecturers. It is being timed so that access will be possible from most parts of the world.
The 12th ICG Summer School in Montpellier is planned in 2021 (5-9th July). It will run as two streams - one 'Basic Science' and a second on ''Viscosity and viscoelasticity'. The 6th Winter School in Wuhan, China has been rescheduled to November 2021. As well as the Basic Science stream, 'Glass fibres' will run as a specialist theme. A second school in Kolkata, India is planned for January 2021 as a virtual event. More information will be posted as available on the Education pages of this web site.
